Most American voters say they would not consider joining a third political party founded by Elon Musk, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll.
When asked whether they would “consider joining a third party, if Elon Musk created it, as an alternative to the Republican and Democratic parties,” 77% of registered voters said they would not. Only 17% said they would join or consider joining such a party.
Musk, who was previously aligned with former President Donald Trump and appeared close to Republican leaders earlier in the year, has recently shifted his stance—publicly criticizing both Trump and members of the GOP over various issues.
Earlier this month, Musk announced the formation of the America Party, a new political faction aimed at challenging both major parties.
“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party — and you shall have it,” Musk wrote on his social platform X. “When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste and graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy.”
The question now is this: In a deeply divided nation, do Americans truly want meaningful political change — or are they simply unwilling to abandon the comfort of the two-party system, even as it fails to serve them?
