Iranian negotiators temporarily walked out of peace talks with the United States after President Donald Trump reportedly made strong remarks regarding Iran and the Strait of Hormuz during ongoing negotiations.
The talks, held in Switzerland and mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, were aimed at building on a recent memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran that called for a ceasefire and a reduction in tensions across the region.
According to reports, the Iranian delegation objected to Trump's comments and lodged a formal complaint with the mediators before leaving the negotiating table. Iranian officials warned that their armed forces were prepared to respond to any threats and urged U.S. leaders to be more careful with their statements.
Despite the tense exchange, both sides later agreed to continue diplomatic efforts. Mediators from Pakistan and Qatar announced that a high-level committee had approved a roadmap designed to achieve a final agreement within 60 days.
