Jaren Jackson Jr. and the Memphis Grizzlies are embarking on an exciting new chapter.

As the NBA season unfolds, Memphis Grizzlies forward Jaren Jackson Jr. will be trading in the No. 13 he donned for the first seven years of his career for the new number, 8.

For Grizzlies fans, this represents a fresh look; however, Jackson Jr. is not the first in his family to wear the No. 8 in the NBA. That distinction belongs to his father, Jaren Jackson Sr., who sported the number while playing for the Los Angeles Clippers during the 1992-93 season.

“This change is deeply personal to me and my family,” Jackson Jr. shared with NBC News regarding his decision. “The number 8 has a significant connection for me. It symbolizes new beginnings and boundless possibilities. It’s an excellent source of inspiration.”

The idea for the number change came to Jackson while he was riding an exercise bike, a place he claims sparks his best ideas. He made the announcement just before the commencement of his eighth season, expressing his desire for the new number to embody a “fresh start” for both himself and the Memphis franchise.
